When I was two years old, Mike Wallace was able to say, truthfully, that “Americans consider homosexuality more harmful to society than adultery, abortion, or prostitution.” By the time I hit puberty, only fifteen years later, some of the same brave activists interviewed here had managed to change societal attitudes enough that I could live my life without a great deal of fear. Not an absence of fear. But without a great deal of it. That amazes me.
